Hosting a baby shower is a fun undertaking but there is a lot of planning that goes into throwing a baby shower party. Sometimes even those with the best of intentions overlook or don’t anticipate all of the details of the day. This can result in a miscue or a baby shower blunder. Most of these blunders are not enough to ruin the day; in fact often time’s years later the blunder becomes a funny memory of the event. But in the moment the hostess, who has worked so hard to put together the perfect event, is usually a little embarrassed.
Running out of food – This can easily happen, if you underestimate the turn out or if people bring uninvited guests. Usually there isn’t much you can do to fix this issue. It is best to always over plan for food, it won’t go to waste. You can always get people to take a plate of leftovers home or freeze the leftovers for the mom and dad-to-be.
Inviting too many guests – This can be hard to control because you don’t want to offend anyone by leaving them off the guest list. In the planning stages, make sure you select a venue that handle the amount of people you are inviting.
Running out of prizes – Playing baby shower games is a big part of the event. Running short on prizes or not having an appropirate prize, can be a bit of a blunder. Most people won’t mind but it can be a little embarrasing.
Mixing themes – While the main theme of the party is the new baby boy or girl, sometimes another theme is added such as a character that the new parents are using for the baby’s room. Make sure you get the right theme, if it is a surprise shower, consult the dad and try to coordinate it with the main theme so that they do not clash.
One of the biggest blunders actually happens after the shower is over, in the days or weeks after a shower it is customary to send a thank you note to the attendees, don’t forget to record all the guests names and address and if possible the gift they gave, so that you can send out the thank you notes.
